Disappointment for Buemi at Indian Grand Prix
At the Indian Grand Prix, Torro Rosso’s
drivers were offered cars with much
improved competitiveness and Sébastien
Buemi responded extremely well on the
new Buddh circuit in New Delhi. He took
the opportunity during the free practice
and qualifying by regularly placing his car
in the top ten and in front of teammate
Alguersuari. But in the race, with new
points in his sights, the Ferrari engine
stopped shortly before the halfway flag
and Buemi had to withdraw.
The new front wing and exhaust system of the STR6, already tested in Korea, contributed to a surprisingly effective top speed and perfectly adapted to the characteristics of the circuit. Both Toro Rosso drivers accessed the third session of qualifying to occupy the fifth row on the grid, 9th & 10th, and as in Korea, the two cars topped the list in terms of sheer speed. Initially, Sébastien lost 3 positions but came back to his original starting position, ninth, after passing Senna’s Renault and Sutil’s Force India. But in the 24th lap, the chances of a new double point finish were ruined by mechanical problems. “I am very disappointed with what happened this afternoon, because I was having a very good race, after an excellent qualifying yesterday. A non-finish with no points, it’s a bit difficult to take,” Buemi said.
Alguersuari again achieved a great race to finish 8th behind the four big established teams and brings four precious points to equal Sauber, 7th, in the constructor championship. As for the unfortunate Vaudois, he sees his team mate’s advantage expand in the driver standings and now trails the Spaniard by 11 points.
